This quote means that even though he might not win he must stay true and stand by anyones side if they are good people and choose the right. Only if they do bad things and choose the wrong he must separate because that is not a amicale environment to be around. You need to be with people that are true and right. They will help guide you through hard situations unlike the people who choose the wrong. So don't worry if you don't always win because that might never happen, you always have to remember to stay true to yourself and other people. For example you are half way out of the game but so far you guys are losing but you still have hope. That is called staying true because you have to sand up with people who are right. At the end you guys don't end up winning but that's ok because at least your teammate kept it calm and chose the right. Instead of them stomping and cursing they kept it smooth. Those are the kind of people you should stick with and if they ever do anything wrong you need to separate yourself.
