Optician 

Duties and Responsibilities: 
       Optician is one of the most important members of the eye care team. They keep track of orders, prescriptions, and inventory. The amount of direct interaction with the customer is very important, their loyalty is often won or lost. It is based on how well the frame selection and eyewear fitting glasses goes. They must have knowledge of current fitting standards and modern fashion trend. They help clients pick out eyeglass and lens treatment including tint and coating. Not only that but they educate client about proper eyeglass and contact lens care. All employers should consider a requirement for sociable personality traits. Qualities that the clients appreciates are essential to a successful career. Opticians can also repair broken frames if there is any damage.  

Salary: $34,840 

Education: 
       There is no specific educational requirement for the Optician. A bachelors degree in opticianry may offer a competitive advantage. The courses educate students on anatomy and physiology on the human eye. They also have opportunities to learn about polishing, tinting, and fitting of glasses. Some states require licensing while others need to pass a state or written test. 

Demand for this profession: 
       The demand for this profession is very high. It is expected to rise 24 percent over the years of 2014 to 2024. 

 

Reflection: 
       I would like to be an Optician because it seems interesting to me. It is something different I wouldn’t go for. I think it seems like something I would like to be doing. I would help out people with fixing their vision and picking out their glasses. It is something I would consider in my future career.
