St. Patrick's Day

       St. Patrick was a fifth-century Roman-British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. He is one of the Christians most widely known figures.  

  1. What is the purpose of St. Patrick's Day? 
       The purpose of St. Patrick's Day is to remember, St. Patrick, one of Ireland's Patons saints who ministered Christianity in Ireland during the fifth century.  

  1. Why is St. Patrick's Day designated when it is? 
       St. Patrick's Day is designed on March 17. This is because he became more widely known and seen as the patron of Ireland in the later times. It celebrates St. Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. 
  
  1. Why a certain color on St. Patrick's Day? 
       There is a certain color on St. Patrick's day which is green. According to some accounts the first original color was blue. It started to change in the 17th century since green is one of the colors in the Ireland flag. Celebrations involving parades and festivals have the color green or shamrock decorations. 

  1. Other information of interest? 
       Other information of interest is that St. Patrick used the three leaf clover (or shamrock) to explain Trinity. Also the practice of dying the river green started in Chicago of 1962. City official decided to dye a a portion of the Chicago River green. Patrick's birth name was Maewyn and was kidnapped into slavery then bought into Ireland.
